BankruptcyData Releases Report on 2023's first 9 months Advisory Mandates and Group Involvement, Including Professional Firm Rankings

 

In 9M23, Kirkland & Ellis dominated the Debtor bankruptcy counsel league table with 19 mandates. Young Conaway followed behind with 11  hires. Pachulski Stang and Latham & Watkins took the third and fourth places for eight and seven mandates respectively.

Highlights from the Legal rankings:

  • Potter Anderson topped the UCC Local Counsel list with four retentions during 9M23 as Delaware Counsel. Morris James and Womble Bond 
    placed second with six hires.
  • Gibson Dunn topped the Ad Hoc Group counsel legal table with 10 mandates, whose mostly represented secured debtholders. Davis Polk took 
    the second spot with nine mandates, most of which were also representations of secured creditors. Akin Gump and Paul Weise took third place 
    with seven hires.
  • Porter Hedges was the most popular local counsel for Ad Hoc Groups during 9M23.
  • Kirkland & Ellis’s Joshua Sussberg was the busiest partner on the lead counsel front, while Matthew Cavenaugh (Jackson Walker), John 
    Higgins and M Shane Johnson (Porter Hedges) were the most retained local counsel.
  • BankruptcyData's top ranked associate was Megan Young-John of Porter Hedges with ten noted local counsel appearances.
  • FTI Consulting topped the Debtor Financial Advisor league table with 13 hires each. Alvarez & Marsal followed behind with 12 disclosed 
    mandates.
  • Guggenheim and Jefferies were the top investment bankers during 9M23 with nine disclosed mandates each. Moelis & Co. and SSG Advisors 
    tied for third place with eight engagements. 
  •  For the Restructuring Advisor ranking, Alvarez & Marsal tops the chart with 11 mandates. AlixPartners followed with nine mandates. Portage 
    Point Partners (including its subsidiary Triple P RTS) won seven Restructuring Advisor mandates.
  • Deloitte & Touche and KPMG were the most popular debtor-side Accountant / Tax Advisor with 10 disclosed case appearances. 
    PricewaterhouseCoopers ranked in third place with eight hires.
  • Dundon Advisers dominated the UCC Financial Advisor league table with 25 disclosed hires in 9M23 and Province followed with 18 
    retentions. These two firms took about half of the UCC financial advisor market share in 9M23. Berkeley Research Group and FTI 
    Consulting took the third and fourth places, respectively.
  • Houlihan Lokey was the most popular UCC investment bank.
